Ashworth wins Twin States Girls' Championship

 
Catherine Ashworth of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina posted a final round two under par 70 to win the 2014 Twin States Junior Girls’ Championship hosted by Columbia Country Club in Blythewood, SC. Ashworth a rising senior used 3 birdies on the day to beat out her good friend and First Round Medalist, Siranon Shoomee, by a single stroke. “My mentality was to gain two strokes by focusing on the course rather than my competitors,” said Ashworth when asked about her strategy going into the final round. With a battle that was back and forth all day, Shoomee did not go down easily, chipping in for birdie on the last hole forcing Ashworth to get up and down for par to claim the title.  Ashworth, an East Carolina University verbal commit, captured her first every CGA Championship, “It feels great, I have been playing CGA events ever since I was young and have finally got a win.” Shoomee finished second for her third consecutive time in CGA girls’ championship.  Jessica Spicer of Durham, NC finished in third place with a total of three over par 144. 
Ashley Czarnecki of Greenville, SC won the second flight with a two day total of ten over par 154.  Anna Eddy of Hilton Head, SC won the third flight and in the sub-junior division, Mary Kathryn Talledo of Blythewood, SC finished first with a total of ten over par 82.
This junior girls’ championship is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association.
