Russ Perry and Mark Stephens take home North Carolina Senior Four-Ball Championship
GREENVILLE, NC – Final round results of the 14th North Carolina Senior Four-Ball Championship of the Carolinas Golf Association hosted by Greenville Country Club in Greenville, NC on Thursday, August 14, 2014. (Par 35-36—71, 6,200 yards, Rating: 70.1/128).
Russ Perry from Winston-Salem, NC and Mark Stephens from Troutman, NC followed up back to back 63s with a final round six-under par 65 to win the 2014 North Carolina Senior Four-Ball Championship by three strokes over defending champions Paul Simson and Don Detweiler both of Raleigh, NC. Perry and Stephens never made a bogey in 54 holes and ended up tying the all-time scoring record in the North Carolina Senior Four-Ball Championship at 191.
“It was all about putting,” Perry exclaimed, “we putted really well this week.” Perry and Stephens were shocked to learn they tied the all-time scoring mark and did not make a bogey. “The only real chance at bogey we had was Monday on 11,” Stephens said, “we had to make a 10 footer for par and Russ drained it.” Perry on what he considered the winning shot today on #14, “Mark hooked one out of the trees to 25 feet and drained the putt, that was what won it for us!”
Perry and Stephens also won the Eagle Point Four-Ball Senior Division in April and finished tied for 6th in the Carolinas Senior Four-Ball Championship.
Mark Wagner from Statesville, NC made his 9th career hole-in-one by draining a 7-iron on the 159 yard par 3 10th hole for an ace.
The North Carolina Senior Four-Ball Championship is a 54-hole four-ball stroke play event open to any male amateur golfer in North Carolina over the age of 55.
