Adams Duo Leads By One at 9th Carolinas Mixed Team Championship
Southport, NC – First round results of the 9th Carolinas Mixed Team Championship hosted by The Players Club at St. James Plantation on Saturday, August 30, 2014. Par 36-36---72 6466 and 5603 yards. Six time CGA Mixed Team Champions Anthony and Debbie Adams of Asheville, NC lead by one shot over newcomers George Rasque of Summerville, SC – Victoria Tsurutis of Charleston, SC. Both teams carded an impressive six birdies for the day in the first round four-ball stroke play format. Heavy rains entered the area early on during the first round and the competitors had to endure a two hour delay after the course became unplayable. “We played pretty well today considering,” Adams (Anthony) said. “I’m just bummed I missed all of the Ohio State football came today.”
In the tournament division Todd and Cass Manley of Charleston, SC lead by one shot over Steve and Tracie Clark of Midland, NC after shooting a three over par round of 75. This division plays a shorter course. (5923 and 4902 yards).
There is a 3-way tie for the overall Senior title. Michael and Susan Egan of Wilmington, NC; Jane and Mike Fesperman of New London, NC and Melvin and Nancy Chamblee of Ahoskie, NC all shot two over par rounds of 74. Four other senior teams are only one shot back.

Players will tee off in the final round with a 9:00am shot-gun start. The final day format is a modified alternate shot and players were pre-flighted within their respective division. This championship is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association which is in its 105th year of serving amateur golf for all abilities in South and North Carolina.
