Jaelyn and Jodee Tindal of Rock Hill, S.C. earned the title at the 41st Carolinas Women's Four-Ball Championship at Prestwick Country Club. The pair of sisters shot a four-under-par 68 in the final round to breeze past the rest of the field and win by two strokes.
The title marks the third CGA title for Jodee, who won back-to-back Parent-Child Championships with her father in 2014 and 2015, and the first CGA title for Jaelyn. Jodee is a rising sophomore at College of Charleston, and Jaelyn is a recent graduate of Mercer University.
The pair had an electric start to the round and carded four birdies on the first six holes. Jodee earned three birdies on the front nine, which Jaelyn said gave the sisters the momentum they needed for the rest of the round.
"We kept hitting greens and giving ourselves chances and made a few," Jodee said. "After that we had to stay patient. We kept saying, 'this is a good par hole.'"
After the turn, the sisters were four-under-par, and they maintained it for the rest of the round. They made par on every hole on the back nine, and Jodee said Jaelyn kept the duo's momentum alive on the back nine after she sank a few key putts. Though they had an impressive round, the sisters agreed the best part of the win was that they won it together.
"There's nothing better than playing with your sister," Jaelyn said. "You know she's pulling for you, and I knew we could go out and have a great time together."
Four-time CGA champion Gracyn Burgess of Lexington, S.C. and her partner, Kennedy Gooding of Lexington, S.C. finished in the runner-up position after carding a one-under-par 71 in the final round with four birdies. The pair finished with an even-par 144 for the tournament.
In the Senior division, Patty Moore of Charlotte, N.C. and Kim Briele of New Bern, N.C. took home the trophy. The pair finished in red numbers in both rounds and carded a four-under-par 68 in the final round. Angela Stewart of Greenville, N.C. and Susan Beaupied of Pittsboro, N.C finished five strokes back in the runner-up position after carding a one-under-par 143.
The championship is conducted at 36 holes of four-ball stroke play. All players have the option to play in the Championship Division (approximately 6,000 yards) or the Senior Division (approximately 5,200 yards). The Senior Division will be comprised of teams in which both players have reached their 50th birthday by August 4, 2018. The competition will include gross scores only. Only teams in the Championship Division will be eligible for overall champion and only teams in the Senior Division will be eligible for senior champion. Teams will be pre-flighted within their division based on combined team Handicap Index. A tie for Overall Champion and Senior Champion is determined by an on-course playoff. All other ties will be broken by scorecard playoff.
Entry is open to any female amateur golfer who has reached her 13th birthday by August 5, 2018, maintains a residence in North Carolina or South Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has an active GHIN USGA Handicap Index at a CGA member club.
The Carolinas Golf Association would like to thank Prestwick Country Club for hosting this year's tournament. Our event would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of its staff members throughout the weekend. A special thank you to Head Golf Professional, Jay Smith.
