Lancaster, SC—Cayla Smith of Easley, SC had to go extra holes, but was up to the challenge and captured the SC Junior Girls’ Match Play Championship defeating Annika Bovender of Mt. Pleasant, SC on the 20^th hole.  Bovender, a rising high school junior, took an early lead in championship match, but Smith birdied five out six holes to take a three up lead through number 11.  The match stay tied through fifteen when Bovender battled back and won the last three holes to send the match into extra holes.  Smith then secured the junior title...

Dwight Cauthen, Jr. of Columbia, SC defeated Jake Carter of Easley, SC, 3 & 2 in the championship match.  Cauthen and Carter’s made the turn all square in the final match, but then Cauthen won four of the next six to win his first CGA championship. 

 

This annual junior championship was conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association.

Zach Seabolt, Raleigh, NC, and Trace Crowe, Easley, SC carded first round 70's (2-under par) to lead the field after round 1 of the 2013 Carolinas Amateur Championship on The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island, SC. Windy conditions made for a challenging round for all competitors at the seaside course. Sunny skies and a perfectly prepared course greeted the players as they started off the first and tenth tee at 8:00am this morning.
