PINEHURST, N.C. -- John Derr, who reported from the Masters a record 62 times and broadcast from the 15th green when it first was on television, died of an apparent heart attack, his daughter said Sunday. He was 97.
Cricket Gentry said her father watched American Pharoah win the Belmont Stakes to capture the Triple Crown. She went to his house after the race Saturday evening and found him in his chair in front of the TV.

Read Post »Due to the harsh weather in the Triad this past winter impacting turf conditions throughout the region, Sedgefield Country Club-Dye Course (old Cardinal) will will be sprigged starting June 8 and could be closed up to six weeks depending on growing conditions. Therefore we have agreed to move the Carolinas Amateur Championship sectional qualifier on July 2 to a new site.
The qualifier has been moved down the road to Forest Oaks Country Club in Greensboro and will be played on the same date of July 2.
