Twin States Jr Girls Championship Preview

Emily Dunlap of Greenville, S.C. joins this year's field in hopes of capturing her second CGA title of the summer at the 52nd Twin States Junior Girls' Championship at Spring Valley Country Club.

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (July 27, 2018) -- The Carolinas Golf Association will conduct the 52nd Twin States Junior Girls' Championship at Spring Valley Country Club in Columbia, S.C. from July 31 - August 1, 2018.

Players to watch:

  • Emily Dunlap of Greenville, S.C. is currently ranked No. 2 among junior girls golfers in South Carolina and will join this year's field in hopes of capturing her second CGA title of the summer. So far in 2018, the College of Charleston commit finished T5 at the Carolinas Girls' Championship and earned her first CGA title at the South Carolina Junior Girls' Match Play.

  • Nicole Adam of Pinehurst, N.C. is currently ranked No. 3 among junior girls golfers in North Carolina. The rising high school junior has finished in the top-five nine times so far in 2018, including a T4 finish at the North & South Junior Girls' Amateur earlier this month. The UNC-Chapel Hill commit also qualified and advanced to match play at the 2018 U.S. Girls' Junior Championship.

  • Four-time CGA champion Emily Hawkins of Lexington, N.C. is in her last summer of junior golf, and she is making it count. So far in 2018, the rising freshman at Campbell University won the North Carolina Junior Girls' Championship and was a quarterfinalist at the Carolinas Women's Match Play. Last year, Hawkins also won the 2017 Jimmy Anderson Girls' Invitational. She is currently ranked No. 4 among junior girls golfers in North Carolina.

  • Anna Morgan of Spartanburg, S.C., who is currently ranked No. 3 among junior girls golfers in South Carolina, will join this year's field in hopes of capturing her first CGA title. So far this year, the rising high school senior and Furman commit finished T3 at the Carolinas Junior PGA Championship and T4 at the Sea Pines Junior Heritage.

  • Abigail Schimpf of Daniel Island, S.C., who is currently ranked No. 4 among junior girls golfers in South Carolina, has had an impressive season thus far. The rising high school senior earned the title at the WSCGA Foundation Junior in May. Schimpf also finished T3 at the Carolinas Girls' Championship and T3 at the WSCGA Junior Girls' Championship.

  • Elle Johnson of Inman, S.C., who is currently ranked No. 6 among junior girls golfers in South Carolina, will return to this year's field in hopes of capturing her first CGA title. The rising high school senior fell just short of the title in last year's competition after falling to the eventual champion, Gracyn Burgess, in a sudden death playoff. So far in 2018, she has finished in the top-10 four times.

Spring Valley Country Club is located on 150 acres of luscious terrain and elevations surrounded by large lakes, small ponds, wildflowers and wildlife. The 18-hole course was originally designed by George Cobb in 1960 and then renovated by John B. Lafoy III in 1999.

The championship format is 36 holes of stroke play competition.

Entry is open to any female amateur golfer ages 12 to 18 as of August 1, 2018, who has not started college, maintains a residence in North Carolina or South Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has a current USGA Handicap Index at a CGA member club.

Scoring will be provided by the CGA throughout the championship, offering 9 and 18-hole updates. Live updates will also be available on the CGA’s official Twitter account, @cgagolf1909.
