Top Seeds Advance in SC Junior Match

 

 

Medalist winners Anna Eddy of Hilton Head, SC and Jordan Warnock of Roebuck, SC continued their solid play advancing through the early rounds of match play in the 38th SC Junior Match Play Championship on the Tom Fazio designed Cotton Dike course at Dataw Island Club in St. Helena Island, SC.

 

Eddy, a rising high school junior, defeated Sarah Smith of York, SC 5 and 3 to move into the girls' quarterfinals.  Eddy will face Jensen Castle of West Columbia, SC in the third quarterfinal match on Thursday morning.  Castle, a rising high school freshman, defeated Madison Elliott of North Myrtle Beach, SC 3 and 1.  Defending champion Morgan Cox of Easley, SC received a bye into her quarterfinal match against Ashley Czarnecki of Greenville, SC.  Czarnecki, the top ranked junior girls in SC, advanced to the quarters by defeating Brooke Hutto of Aiken, SC 5 and 3.  In the other quarterfinal matches, Hailey Cleary of Lexington, SC will face off against Kasidy Beckel of Okatie, SC and Carly Lyvers of Greenville, SC will play Jodee Tindal of Rock Hill, SC.  The girls' semifinal matches will take place on Thursday afternoon with the championship match starting at 8:30 on Friday morning.

 

In the boys' championship, Warnock rolled in the first round of match play beating Wilhelm Elliott of Columbia, SC 9 and 7.  In this second match of the day, Warnock defeated James May of Ninety Six, SC 3 and 2 to reach the round of 16.  Second seed Ryan Marter of Columbia, SC won his first round match but 2014 SC Junior champion Jack Parrott of Columbia, SC won their second round match 2 and 1.  The boys' round of 16 will begin at 8 am on Thursday morning with the quarterfinal matches beginning at approximately 12:30 pm on Thursday.

The CGA is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization that was founded in 1909 to promote and to protect the game of golf in the Carolinas by providing competitions, education, support and benefits to golf clubs and golfers. The CGF has distributed more than $1,500,000 since 1977 to benefit Carolinas' golf initiatives including junior and women's programs.
