SALISBURY, N.C. (May 18, 2017) -- Final round results of the 32nd North Carolina Senior Amateur Championship at the Country Club of Salisbury in Salisbury, N.C. on Thursday, May 18th (6,478 yards, Par 35-36--71, Course Rating 71.7/130).

Paul Simson of Raleigh secured his third straight North Carolina Senior Amateur title in wire-to-wire fashion by scoring 64-72-71 for 207. He has also won nine of the last 11 years he was eligible. "I really do not know what the secret is," said Simson. "I do work pretty hard at getting the ball in the hole, trying to at least play smart. I played some conservative shots this week and I think it worked out for me."

Simson also has won five of his last six appearances in CGA individual senior championships the past two years. In addition, he won the 2016 North & South Senior at Pinehurst Country Club.

Simson was comfortably ahead most of the day, but pressure was applied when he double bogeyed the par-3 15th. Macon Moye of Pinehurst birdied the par-5 15th, then made another birdie on 16, cutting into Simson's lead. "All of a sudden, the lead went from six to three," Simson said. "Fortunately on the next hole I was able to make birdie. I dropped one on 16, but birdied 17 to put me four up on the last hole."

Moye finished second and was the only other golfer to finish under par at 1-under 212. Keith Watters of Raleigh, Gary Robinson of Fayetteville, and Doug Owens of Albemarle finished T-3 posting an even par.

Preston Edmondson of Morrisville recorded an ace on the par-3 6th using a 9-iron from 168 yards. He has now recorded 14 holes-in-one for his career.

Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 55th birthday by the first day of the championship, is a legal resident of North Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at a CGA member club that does not exceed 10.4.

The CGA would like to thank the members and staff of the Country Club of Salisbury for hosting the North Carolina Senior Amateur. Special gratitude is extended to head golf professional Chad Campbell and golf course superintendent Ron Bivins.
