After a rain-filled weekend, sunny and breezy conditions greeted the players Monday morning at Sedgefield Country Club. Representing the host club, professional Eric Ferguson and amateur Scott Harvey carded nine birdies on their round to shoot eight-under-par 63 and secure a two-shot victory. This was the first time Ferguson, head golf professional at Sedgefield Country Club's Ross course, and his good friend Harvey have partnered in a four-ball tournament.
After opening their round on the par-71 layout with a six-under-par 29, windy conditions escalated as they played their inward nine. "We held it together on the back," said Ferguson. "There were a lot of long holes with the wind, but we made some clutch putts coming down the stretch."
This win marks Harvey's sixth overall CGA championship. It is his second CGA four-ball title, having won the 2011 Carolinas Four-Ball with Patrick Brady. In a few days Harvey will partner with Todd Mitchell of Bloomington, Ill. at the inaugural U.S. Four-Ball at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, Calif. "Playing with a friend, it's just stress-free and a lot of fun," Harvey said of the four-ball format. "I think team golf is something we need to do a lot more of."
Last year's runner-up team from Treyburn Country Club, professional Tag Wylie and amateur Tim Myers finished in second place again this year, repeating their six-under-par 65 performance.
