Pinehurst No. 3 Hosts 12th Carolinas Mixed Team

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (August 16, 2017) -- 54 two-person sides from across the Carolinas will compete on Pinehurst Country Club's Course No. 3 in Pinehurst, N.C. for the 12th Carolinas Mixed Team Championship from Saturday, August 19th through Sunday, August 20th.

The championship format consists of 36 holes. One round of four-ball stroke play is followed by a final round of modified alternate shot.
Seven-time Carolinas Mixed Team champions Anthony Adams and Debbie Adams of Asheville, N.C. will look to notch their first title since 2014, having settled for runner-up finishes the past two years.
While this is the first time Pinehurst No. 3 hosts the Carolinas Mixed Team, the course is no stranger to Carolinas Golf Association championships. Course No. 3 served as a site for the Carolinas Father-Son Championship nine times from 1979 to 1990. In 2014, the Carolinas Net Amateur was held on Course No. 3.
This classic Donald Ross design (circa 1910) is the shortest course at Pinehurst at just 5,155 yards. But do not be fooled by its modest distance – this is a fun par 68 that was renovated this year to return many of Ross’s original design flourishes and characteristics throughout the classic layout.
Carolinas Mixed Teams may choose to compete in any division in which they are eligible: Championship division, Tournament division (shorter course), Senior division (male age 55+, female age 50+), or Super Senior division (male age 65+, female age 65+). The tournament division plays a shorter course and is ineligible for the overall championship. Tournament, Senior and Super Senior divisions will be pre-flighted by total team handicap index. Team handicap index is computed by adding 2/3 of the lower handicap index to 1/3 of the higher handicap index.
Entry is open to any team comprised of a male amateur and a female amateur golfer who have reached their 13th birthdays, who are legal residents of North Carolina or South Carolina, are members in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and have an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at a CGA member club.

About the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA)
The CGA is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization that was founded in 1909 to promote and to protect the game of golf in the Carolinas by providing competitions, education, support and benefits to golf clubs and golfers. The CGA is the second largest golf association in the country with over 700 member clubs represented by nearly 150,000 individuals.
