Not One, Not Two, But Three Carolinas Super Senior Four-Ball Championships for Jim Pridgen and Ernie Newton
LAKE WYLIE, SC – Final round results of the 3rd Carolinas Super Senior Four-Ball Championship of the Carolinas Golf Association hosted by River Hills Country Club in Lake, Wylie, S.C. on Thursday, October 16, 2014 (6200 yards, par 36-36—72, 71.0/135).
The only players to ever win the Carolinas Super Senior Four-Ball Championship made it three for three; partners Jim Pridgen of Jamestown, N.C. and Ernie Newton of Wallburg, N.C came from behind in the final round to complete the three-peat and win the 2014 Carolinas Super Senior Four-Ball Championship. Pridgen and Newton were one shot behind Roger Taylor of Conover, N.C. and Bob Yow of Clinton, N.C. but a second round score of four-under par 68 helped them to victory and a two-day total of six under par 138. First round leaders Taylor and Yow shot a one-under par 71 in the final round and finished in a tie for second with Barry DeLapp from Hendersonville , N.C. and Jim Hickman from Maiden, N.C.
Pridgen and Newton did not have a single blemish on their scorecard today. “It was a tough golf course, buy we tried not to make any bogeys”, Jim Pridgen said. “Ernie played great today and really carried me.” Ernie Newton on the bogey free round, “Well Jim (Pridgen) made a 12-footer for par on number 8 that kept our momentum going.”
The top 15 teams received merchandise and are exempt for the 2015 Carolinas Super Senior Four-Ball Championship.
Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 65th birthday by October 15, is a legal resident of North Carolina or South Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association and has an active USGA Handicap Index® at a CGA member club.
The Carolinas Super Senior Four-Ball Championship is one of 40 championships conducted annually by the Carolinas Golf Association, which is in its 105th year of serving amateur golf in the Carolinas.
