Neveu and Britt take N.C. Senior Four-Ball In Playoff

 

 

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (August 11, 2022) -- Final results of the 21st North Carolina Senior Four-Ball Championship at Mooresville Golf Club in Mooresville, N.C. on August 11, 2022. The field competed at 6,610 yards (par 36-36--72).

54 holes was not enough golf to decide a winner at the 21st North Carolina Senior Four-Ball Championship. A playoff was needed to crown the champions, as Daniel Neveu of Pinehurst, N.C. and Sherrill Britt of West End, N.C. edged out Donald Detweiler of Raleigh, N.C. and Paul Simson of Raleigh, N.C. on the first playoff hole.

This marks Neveu’s first CGA win while this is Britt’s second CGA win, the first coming at the 2015 Carolinas Mid-Am. The duo saved their best golf for when it mattered most, shooting 7-under-par, 65 in the final round. This included a birdie on No. 18 to get into the playoff with the 3-time North Carolina Senior Four-Ball Champions, Detweiler and Simson.

“The biggest moment for us was the birdie by Daniel on No. 18 to get us into the playoff,” Britt said.

Thick rough at Mooresville Golf Club along with a course that has lots of water on it, made it very important for the players to be accurate off the tee and with their approaches. That’s exactly what Neveu and Britt did all week.

“We both hit a lot of greens this week which gave us a lot of putts for birdie,” Britt said. “I think we only had one hole the entire 54 holes where we both missed the green and that was our only bogey.”

For the three round championship Neveu and Britt finished at 19-under, 197. They shot back-to-back rounds of 6-under-par, 66 in the first two rounds which put them in the final pairing and one shot out of the lead.

Britt made six birdies during the final round, a complete flip-flop from the second round where Neveu made six birdies of his own. It was a complete team effort to capture the win at Mooresville Golf Club.

“I’ve been second place so many times at CGA tournaments during my career,” Neveu said. “I am excited to come out on top during my first senior tournament with Sherrill.”

The famed side of Simson and Detweiler, 44-time CGA Champion and 11-time CGA Champion, respectively, earned runners-up after Neveu and Britt birdied the first playoff hole. Finishing in third just one shot out of the playoff at 18-under-par, 196 was Chris Barnard of Concord, N.C. and Dale Fuller of Raleigh, N.C.

About the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA)

 

The CGA is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization that was founded in 1909 to promote and to protect the game of golf in the Carolinas by providing competitions, education, support and benefits to golf clubs and golfers. The CGA is the second largest golf association in the country with over 700 member clubs represented by nearly 150,000 individuals.
