NC Boys' 13 and Under Day One Results

22nd North Carolina Junior Boys' 13 and Under Championship
Stroke Play Qualifying and First Round Results

ASHEBORO, N.C. (July 16, 2018) -- Stroke play qualifying and first round results of the 22nd North Carolina Junior Boys' 13 and Under Championship at Asheboro Municipal Golf Course in Asheboro, N.C. on Monday, July 16.

It was a day of upsets in the first round of match play at the 22nd North Carolina Junior Boys' 13 and Under Championship. No. 16 seed Fisher Kennedy of Winston-Salem, N.C. defeated No. 1 seed Daniel Boone Jr. of Fuquay Varina, N.C. in 11 holes. No. 2 seed Taylor Kuehn of Asheville, N.C. also went down by the hands of No. 15 seed Will Spicer of Kings Mountain, N.C. by a score of 1 up in the championship flight.

Kennedy and Spicer both had to earn their spots in the championship flight in a playoff that consisted of three players fighting for the last two spots. The two golfers both birdied the first playoff hole to claim their spots in the championship flight and took advantage of the opportunity.
Boone shot an even par, 70 in stroke play qualifying while Kuehn was right on his heels with a one-over-par, 71.

The No. 1 seed in the second flight, Kyle Haas of Winston-Salem, N.C., won his first round match 1 up; however, in the third flight, again the No. 1 seed fell, this time to No. 8 seed Chase McLaughlin of Kernersville, N.C. in 10 holes.

There will be three rounds of match play tomorrow beginning with the quarterfinals of the championship flight, and the semifinals of the remaining flights. The championship flight semifinals will immediately follow simultaneously with the finals for all other flights, and the 18-hole championship match will conclude the day.

The championship is conducted at match play. There is an 18-hole stroke-play qualifying round to determine match play flights and seeding. The top 16 from the stroke-play qualifying will qualify for the championship flight. The other players will be in flights of 8 players based on their qualifying score. The championship flight will play 4 rounds of match play. All matches will be 9-hole matches with the championship match being an 18-hole match (no elimination). All other flights will play 3 rounds of 9-hole matches (no elimination).

Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has not reached his 14th birthday by July 17, 2018, is a legal resident of North Carolina and the junior golfer, parent or guardian is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA). Entries are subject to rejection at any time, including during the event, by the CGA or the host club. The reason for rejection may include unbecoming conduct.
