Lyvers Shoots Career Low 67 at Carolinas Jr Girls'

Carly Lyvers shot her competitive low round at five-under 67

FLORENCE, S.C. (August 1, 2017) -- First round results of the 61st Carolinas Junior Girls' Championship hosted by the Country Club of South Carolina in Florence, S.C. on Tuesday, August 1st (6,006 yards, Par 36-36--72, Course Rating 74.2/121).

Carly Lyvers of Simpsonville, S.C. built a four-shot lead after the first round of the 61st Carolinas Junior Girls' Championship at the Country Club of South Carolina in Florence, S.C. Her five-under-par 67 was the lowest round of her career. "The hole seemed really big today," said Lyvers. "I have never had 26 putts before and I am really proud of how I played today." A 15-foot birdie putt on the par-4 1st propelled the James Madison University commit to four birdies on her inward nine. A bogey on the par-3 12th did not disrupt her momentum however, as she closed out her round with two more birdies en route to her record day.

Jodee Tindal of Rock Hill, S.C., who helped the Carolinas win their second straight Mid-Atlantic Junior Girls' Challenge over the weekend, shot an opening one-under 71, moving her into sole possession of second. Sophia Burnett of Bluffton, S.C., granddaughter of Country Club of South Carolina General Manager Fred Burnett, holds a three way tie for third place with Madison Isaacson of Greensboro, N.C. and Hailey Freedman of Chapel Hill, N.C. after finishing at even-par.

Defending champion Emily Hawkins of Lexington, N.C. is T6 after finishing the day at one-over-par, 73 overall.

Round 2 will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 2 and conclude in Thursday's final round.

Entry is open to any female amateur golfer who has not reached her 19th birthday by August 3, 2017, who has not started college, is a legal resident of North Carolina or South Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has a current USGA Handicap Index® of 18.3 or lower at a CGA member club.
