First Round Results
First round results of the 13th Dogwood State Junior Boys' Championship conducted on the East Course at Bermuda Run C.C. in Bermuda Run, N.C. on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 (7,078 yards, Par 36-36--72, Course Rating 74.4/139).
Peter Fountain of Raleigh, N.C. has played some really good golf this summer and continued his stellar performance today, opening with a round of four under par 68 in the 13th Dogwood State Junior Boys' Championship. Fountain, a rising high school sophomore, birdied the first hole on the East Course at Bermuda Run C.C. in Bermuda Run, N.C., and that birdie helped Fountain to a front nine of three under par 33. Fountain reached four under after he birdied the par five tenth hole, but his lone bogey of the day on the eleventh hole brought him back to three under. Another birdie on the par four fifteenth hole moved him to four under for the round, and three closing pars finished off his round of 68. "I was hitting the ball really well, and my playing partners were also playing well, and I was building off the momentum we all had going. I was making some putts and hitting well, and it was just a good day," stated Fountain.
Ethan Hall of Morehead City, N.C. sits alone in second place, one shot back after his round of three under par 69. Five boys are tied for third place at one under par 71: Addison Manring of Stoneville, N.C., Attie Giles of Pinehurst, N.C., Brandon Einstein of Clemmons, N.C., Dawson Daniels of Greensboro, N.C., and Ian Aspey of Clayton, N.C. . Twelve juniors shot par or better in the first round, including defending champion Fulton Smith of Pinehurst, N.C. who finished with a first round of even par 72.
Round 2 will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 2nd. The field will be reduced to the top 70 and ties after 36-holes for Thursday's final round.
Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has not reached his 19th birthday by August 3, 2017, who has not started college, is a legal resident of North Carolina is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has a current USGA Handicap Index® of 18.4 or lower at a CGA member club.
