Fort Mill leads Bentwinds 5.5-2.5 in Interclub Finals
In a rematch of the 2011 Carolinas Interclub Finals, Fort Mill Golf Club leads Bentwinds Country Club after day one by a score of 5.5 to 2.5. 8 points were available today in the four-ball matches. Fort Mill Golf Club, from Fort Mill, S.C., was led by wins from the teams of Jody Stegall & Tom Sullivan (6&4), Dan Page & David Wyatt (1up), Dave Sturick & Mike Trull (2up) Ray Racrning their way to compete in the championship match at Sedgefield Country Club (Dye Course) in Greensboro, N.C. The finals involve 16 players from each club competing in both singles and four-ball match play over two days. Each matcer Jr. & Rick Fricke (4&2), Jamie Lightsey & Mike Granger (3&2), and a half from Jackson Windell & Michael Jones. Bentwinds Country Club, from Fuquay-Varina, N.C., earned points from Chad Goldston & Dallas Goldston (4&2), David Walters & Mike Ring (2up), and a half from Paul Gurney & Arnie Bullock.
Sunday’s round consists of 16 singles matches, each earning a possible one point. 12.5 total points will earn either team the 2013 Carolinas Interclub Championship crown. The Carolinas Interclub Championship is the culmination of a single elimination playoff process following regular season qualifying. This year’s playoffs involved 33 teams with the final two clubs eah is worth 1 point with a total of 24 points up for grabs. 12.5 points are needed to win the championship.
