Field Set for Father-Son/Parent-Child

Lee Bailey of Matthews, N.C. and Jackson Bailey of Indian Trail, N.C. won last year's Carolinas Father-Son Championship and will return to this year's field.

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (July 16, 2018 ) -- The Carolinas Golf Association will conduct the 52nd Carolinas Father-Son Championship and 21st Carolinas Parent-Child at Pinehurst Area Courses in Pinehurst, N.C. on July 20, 2018. 
 

52nd Carolinas Father-Son Championship:

A total of 268 teams will compete in 14 divisions at six championship sites for the 52nd Carolinas Father-Son and 20th Parent-Child Championship. The overall champion will be determined at Country Club of Whispering Pines. Other host clubs include Foxfire Resort & Golf, Legacy Golf Links, Longleaf Golf and Family Club, Mid Pines Inn & Golf Club, and Pinewild Country Club (Magnolia).

Last year's champions, Lee Bailey of Matthews, N.C. and Jackson Bailey of Indian Trail, N.C. will return to this year's field to defend their title. The pair won last year's competition after surviving a three-team sudden death playoff at Mid Pines Inn & Golf Club.

Joining them in the field are 2011 champions Walter Todd Sr. of Laurens, S.C. and Neal Todd of Laurens, S.C. Todd Sr. has claimed the title several times, also winning in 2012 and 2015 with his other son, Walt Todd, Jr. The other former Father-Son champions in this year's field include:

• 2006 and 2010 champions Steve Wilkinson and Neil Wilkinson of Wilmington, N.C.

• 2009 champions Jim Pridgen of Jamestown, N.C. and Brent Pridgen of Lewisville, N.C.

• 2017 champion Jackie Parrish of Clinton, N.C. playing this year with his son, Jack Parrish, Jr.

• 2004 champions Eugene and Jeff Spencer of Blythewood, S.C.

• 2003 champions Jim and Peyton Gallagher of Charlotte, N.C.

• 1997 and 2000 champion Phillip and Brian Smith of Fuquay Varina, N.C.

• 1998 champions Jack Crain of Goldsboro, N.C. and Andy Crain of Chapel Hill, N.C.

• 1990 champion Steve Lassiter of Pinehurst, N.C. playing this year with his son, Will.

• 1986 champion Steve Isley, Jr. of Oak Island, N.C. playing this year with his son, Walker.

Each team plays alternate shot except that both team members hit from each tee and then select the ball to be played (modified alternate shot). A team must complete the hole with the ball selected. Teams select the division in which to compete if eligible.

Eligibility is open to any team comprised of a father and son, stepfather and and stepson, father-in-law and son-in-law or grandfather and grandson. At least one member of each team must 1) be a legal resident of one of the Carolinas 2) be a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and have an active GHIN Handicap Index at a CGA member club or is a golf professional employed at a CGA member club. A team is eligible if one partner is an amateur member of a CGA member club or if one partner is not a golf professional employed by a CGA member club. Pro-Pro teams are not eligible.

 

21st Carolinas Parent-Child Championship

42 pairs will compete in the 21st Carolinas Parent-Child Championship at Legacy Golf Links in Aberdeen, N.C.

Four-time Parent-Child champions, Gary and Lauren Robinson of Fayetteville, N.C. look to add another trophy to their shelf at this year's competition. The duo took home championships in 2016, 2013, 2012 and 2011, carding a low-score of 63 in 2012.

At last year's event, four pairs finished in the runner-up position after carding a 73. Jeff and Hannah Craver of Winston-Salem, N.C., Martin and Emily Stinson of Charlotte, N.C., Jon and Madison Isaacson of Greensboro, N.C. and Frank and Makalyn Poole of Williamston, N.C. will all return to this year's field in hopes of finishing in the top spot. Other former champions in the field include:

• 2014 and 2015 champion Kevin Tindal of Rock Hill, S.C. will be playing with his other daughter, Jaelyn.

• 2009 champions Gig Hilton and Stacy Vanzant (formerly Stacy Hilton) of Lexington, N.C.

Entry is open to any team comprised of a parent and child, regardless of age in any gender combination, excluding male-male. Step-parents, grandparents and in-laws are eligible. At least one member of each team must be 1) be a legal reisdent of one of the Carolinas 2) be a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and have an active GHIN USGA Handicap Index at a CGA member club or is a golf professional employed at a CGA member club. A team is eligible if one partner is an amateur member of a CGA member club or if one partner is a golf professional employed by a CGA member club. Pro-Pro teams are not eligible.
