Edmondson/Byman Lead at Mimosa

Morganton, N.C. – First round results of the 16th North Carolina Senior Four-Ball Championship hosted by Mimosa Hills Golf Club in Morganton, N.C. on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 (6,323yards, par 36-36—72, 71.1/132).
Preston Edmondson of Morrisville, N.C. and Ed Byman of Raleigh, N.C. paired up to fire a 10-under-par 62 to sit atop the leaderboard at Mimosa Hills Golf Club. After starting their round with two pars on Nos. 10 and 11 Edmondson birdied three of his next four holes to set the tone. The tandem produced pars on the rest of the backside to turn at three-under-par. Edmondson ripped off three more birdies to start the front side three under. Byman made his first birdie of the day on No. 4 then his partner picked up another birdie on No. 6. It was Byman who birdied two of the last three holes to get the pair to ten-under-par 62.
Bill Plyler and Neal Morrison, both of Charlotte, N.C., find themselves in second place after a nine-under-par 63. Plyer had just one birdie on the front side but made four on the back nine including three straight to end the round. Morrison was the one making birdies on the front nine, he made three while also eagling the par-5 third hole. The pair have a two stroke cushion on third place heading into the second round.
The championship is contested over 54-holes of four-ball stroke play. After Thursday’s round, the field of 67 teams will be cut to the low 30 scores and ties for the final round on Friday.
The North Carolina Senior Four-Ball Championship is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 55th birthday by August 3, 2016, is a resident of North Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association and has an active USGA Handicap Index® at a CGA member club.
