Detweiler/Simson Lead Carolinas Super Senior Four-Ball

CAMDEN, SC (October 8, 2018) -- First round results of the 7th Carolinas Super Senior Four-Ball Championship hosted by Camden Country Club in Camden, SC on Monday, October 8, 2018 (Championship Division: 5,700 yards, Par 35-35--70, 70+ Division: 5,400 yards, par 35-35--70).

Partners Don Detweiler of Raleigh, NC – Paul Simson of Raleigh, NC sit atop the Championship Division in the 7th Carolinas Super Senior Four-Ball Championship after round one. Detweiler and Simson kept a clean card with six birdies and no bogeys for an opening round -6, 64.

Hot on the heels of the lead group are the teams of Wayne Pyrtle of Burlington, NC – Ray Womack of Burlington, NC, and Wayne Howle from Darlington, SC – John Welker from Florence, SC. Pyrtle and Womack also kept a clean card with no bogeys while racking up five birdies to finish at -5, 65. Howle and Welker utilized six birdies to shoot five under leaving them Tied with Pyrtle and Womack and one shot out of the lead.

In the 70+ Division, the teams Jamie Frazier of Winnsboro, SC – Lanny Correll of Pawleys Island, SC and Ernie Newton of Winston-Salem, NC – Larry Boswell of Jamestown, NC are tied for the lead with opening round 66's. Frazier and Correll made six birdies and two bogeys en-route to their four-under round. Newton and Boswell were able to finish bogey-free, along with four birdies for their 66.

The final round is set for a 9:30 am shotgun start on Tuesday morning. 

Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 65th birthday by October 8, 2018, and is a legal resident of North Carolina or South Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association and has an active USGA Handicap Index® at a CGA member club.
