Last year, the Carolinas team lost the Virginias-Carolinas Women's Team Matches for the first time in eight years. This year, captains Terrie Allemang of Hilton Head Island, S.C. and Patty Moore of Pinehurst, N.C. were looking for redemption. The Carolinas Team came out of the gate on fire and never let up. After a hard-fought three days, the Carolinas claimed an 89-55 victory over the Virginias for their 39th overall victory in the championship's history.

In the first round of four-ball match play, the Carolinas team posted 23.5 total points and closed out four of twelve matches. The sides of Victory Huskey/Kayla Thompson, Anna Redding/Jodee Tindal, June Wang/Patty Moore and Angela Stewart/Kim Briele all finished with three full points on the board, adding to a large Carolinas lead. Only one Virginias side, Mimi Hoffman/Lindsay Wortham, was able to close out their Carolinas opponents. At the end of round one's four-ball match play, the Carolinas had a 23.5-12.5 lead.

Round two's format was Pinehurst modified alternate shot match play. Last year, the Virginias team made a big move during the second round that lead to their eventual victory. This year, Captain Terrie Allemang focused on putting like-personalities together on the Carolinas team and the results showed. The Carolinas claimed a staggering 27.5 of 36 points in the second round and finished with 2.5 points or more in nine of twelve matches. The Virginias team was only able to claim four full points, the rest coming in halved matches. After round two, the Carolinas had a comfortable 51-21 lead.

The final round of singles match play was a battle. Although the Carolinas had a commanding lead, there were still 72 points on the table and room for the Virginias to make a comeback. The Carolinas seniors were very strong in the first two rounds, but many struggled to secure their singles matches points. The Carolinas amateurs (non-seniors) were able to pick up the slack and claimed 28.5 of the 38 points won during the final round. Madison Moosa, Courtney McKim, Courtney Stiles, Jessica Spicer and Victoria Huskey all closed out their matches, winning all three available points.

The Carolinas secured 38 points in the final round to finish with an 89-55 victory over the Virginias. This marks the 39th time the Carolinas have brought home the coveted Virginias-Carolinas Women's Team Matches trophy.

The 63rd Virginias-Carolinas Women's Team Matches will be held July 15-17, 2019 at the Resort at Glade Springs in Daniels, West Virginia.
