Carolinas Team Leads 4-0 at 13th Mid-Atlantic Junior Girls Team Matches
LAUREL FORK, Va. –– The eight-player Carolinas team swept all four first day four-ball matches against their Virginia counterparts and own a 4-0 lead entering Sunday’s final day singles play at the 13th Mid-Atlantic Girls’ Challenge being conducted at Olde Mill Resort.
A team of juniors mixing Virginia players against their North Carolina and South Carolina counterparts are competing in the event.
Carolinas recorded the opening day’s most lopsided victory in the first match as the tandem of Siranon Shoomee (Sanford, N.C.)-Madison Moosa (Charlotte, N.C.) rolled to a wire-to-wire 7 and 6 victory over Amanda Hollandsworth (Floyd, Va.)-Katie Turk (Blacksburg, Va.).
In match two, Jessica Spicer (Bahama, N.C.)- Jennifer Chang (Cary, N.C.) outlasted northern Virginians Khushboo Thiagaraj (Haymarket, Va.)-Ashley Dingman (Lorton, Va.), 1 up.
Thereafter, in match three, Grace Yatawara (Salisbury, N.C.)-Sarah Spicer (Bahama, N.C.) bested Kristin Hearp (Salem, Va.)-Sienna Ferrick (Vienna, Va.), 1 up. In a tight match the whole way, Yatawara-Spicer claimed the 17th hole to take the lead for good.
In the last match of the day, Kelli Murphy (Elgin S.C.)-Reona Hirai (Summerville, S.C.) defeated Meagan Board (Roanoke, Va.)-Amy Yang (Roanoke, Va.), 6 and 5.
The event concludes with 12 singles matches on Sunday, July 28. Carolinas leads the all-time series, 8-3-1.
