Cloninger's 67 Narrows Robinson's Lead to One Shot at Carolinas Senior

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Second round results of the 53rd Carolinas Senior Amateur Championship hosted by Sedgefield Country Club (Dye Course) in Greensboro, N.C. on Thursday, September 25, 2014 (6350 yards, par 35-36—71, 71.7,136).
Round one leader Gary Robinson of Fayetteville, N.C. carded a two-over par 73 to hold a one shot lead heading into Friday’s final round. Robinson stands at 141 which is the only under par score through 36 holes on the Pete Dye-designed Sedgefield Country Club Dye course.
Hot on Robinson’s tail is two-time defending champion Rick Cloninger of Rock Hill, S.C. who fired a tournament low round of 67 to get back to even par 142 for the championship and one shot back of the lead. Richard Condrey of Nebo, N.C. posted a one-under par 70 find himself in a tie for second place with Cloninger at 142. Robinson, Cloninger and Condrey will be the final grouping at 9:45am off #1 tee on Friday morning.
The final round is setting-up to be a classic with twelve players within six strokes of the lead.
The average score in round two was 77.9 a full two strokes better than round one due to improved weather conditions.
The field was cut to the low 60 scores and ties for the final round. Cut line fell at 160 (+18) with 62 players advancing to the final round. Five players withdrew for the final round leaving 57 competitors left to chase for the title.

The Carolinas Senior Amateur Championship is a 54-hole stroke play event open to any male amateur golfer who reached his 55th birthday by today, is a legal resident of North Carolina or South Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association and has an active USGA Handicap Index® at a CGA member club that does not exceed 10.4.
This event is one of 40 championships conducted annually by the Carolinas Golf Association, which is in its 105th year of serving amateur golf in the Carolinas.
