Carolinas Team Wins 13th Mid-Atlantic Challenge 9.5 to 2.5
LAUREL FORK, Va. –– The eight-player Carolinas team posted a seven-point victory, 9½-2½, over their Virginia-Maryland counterparts as the 13th Mid-Atlantic Girls’ Challenge concluded on Sunday at Olde Mill Resort
A team of juniors mixing Virginia players against their North
Carolina and South Carolina counterparts competed in the event.
After sweeping each of the four opening day four-ball encounters
on Saturday, Carolinas outscored Virginia by three points (5½-2½) in concluding
singles’ play.
Carolinas, which avenged last year’s loss in the matches, now
leads the all-time series, 9-3-1, and owns a perfect 7-0-0 record on Virginia
soil.
Virginia received its only two wins in the event on the last day
from the top of its lineup as northern Virginians Khushboo Thiagaraj
(Haymarket, Va.) and Ashley Dingman (Lorton, Va.) each recorded victories.
Thiagaraj got past Siranon Shoomee (Sanford, N.C.), 2 and 1, while Dingman bested
Madison Moosa (Charlotte, N.C.), 3 and 1.
Carolinas went unbeaten the rest of the way in singles’
encounters. Jennifer Chang recorded a 5 and 4 victory over Amanda
Hollandsworth, while Sarah Spicer (Bahama, N.C.) and her twin sister, Jessica
(Bahama, N.C.), each registered closing day victories. Sarah defeated Kristin
Hearp (Salem, Va.), 3 and 2, while Jessica edged Katie Turk (Blacksburg, Va.),
