Akshay Bhatia Wins the NC Junior Boys 13 and Under Championship

Asheboro, NC—Akshay Bhatia of Wake Forest, NC captured his first Carolinas Golf Association major title defeating Michael Sanders of Davidson, NC 3 and 2 in the championship match of the 17^th NC Junior Boys’ 13 and Under Championship.  Bhatia made the turn on the Donald Ross designed Asheboro City Golf Course with a one up lead and then won holes ten and eleven to move ahead by three.  The two finalist theh halved the four holes.  On the par three sixteenth hole, Sanders’ approach shot finished less than five feet from the hole, but Bhatia chipped in for birdie and secured the match and the championship trophy.  Bhatia, an eleven year old rising fifth grader, defeated qualifying medalist Grant Smith of Charlotte, NC in the semi-finals before meeting Sanders in the finals.  Also winning their flights were Michael Childress of Salisbury, NC, Britt Stroud of Raleigh and Edward Adams of Raleigh.

 

This annual junior championship is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association.
