Hayley Hammond Shoots 67 to Take Medalist Honors at Carolinas Women's Match Play
Stanley, NC – Stroke play qualifying results of the 16th Carolinas Women’s Match Play Championship hosted by Cowans Ford Country Club on Tuesday, July 9, 2013. Par 36-36—72 5975 yards, 74.6/131.
Nearby resident, Hayley Hammond of Morresville, NC fired a 5-under par round of 67 to take medalist honors after a bogey free round. “This is the second time I’ve done this,” Hammond said. The first time Hammond had a bogey free round was during the Carolinas Women’s Amateur Championship earlier this year in May. “I guess I feel comfortable in CGA tournaments,” Hammond laughed.
Hammond will be seeded number two for the duration of the championship which will change over to match play beginning on Wednesday.
Defending champion, Dawn Woodard of Greer, SC will be seeded number one and is looking to win this championship for the third straight year.
In the tournament division, Kristen Rooke of Greenville, SC shot a four-over par round of 76 after an eagle from the fairway of the challenging par 4 13 th hole. This division plays a shorter course.
The top 16 players including the defending champion will comprise the overall championship. All other players will be placed into flights for the duration of the championship within their division.
