Murphy, Spicer, Chin and Migliaccio Advance to Semifinals
Manning, SC – First and second round match play results of the 57th Carolinas Junior Girls Championship hosted by Wyboo Golf Club on Wednesday, June 26, 2013. Par 36-36—72 5906 yards. (73.1/127).
The day started with sixteen girls fighting their way through to the championship match but ended with only four competitors remaining. In the championship bracket 2011 Carolinas Junior Girls Champion, Kelli Murphy of Elgin, SC won her first match by a 4 and 3 margin over Chandler Danielson of Etowah, NC but had to battle hard in her quarterfinal match against Ann Elizabeth Gore of Lexington, SC. Both players were back-and-forth with each other for the duration of their match and found themselves all square after 18 holes. Murphy would go on to advance in 19 holes against Gore and is in her third straight semi-final of this championship and is looking to capture her second CGA championship win.
Jessica Spicer of Bahama, NC had a tough morning match after she had to face off against her own twin sister, Sarah Spicer, in the first round. “I can’t believe we had to play against each other. It was kind of weird but we had a good match,” Sarah said. At one time Jessica was 3 up on her sister Sarah but Sarah fought back and won three straight holes to get the match back to all square. Jessica would go on to win in 19 holes and will face off against Murphy.
Nicole Chin of Irmo, SC defeated Emily Cox of Lancaster, SC in her early morning match by a 3 and 2 margin and then went out to defeat the number two seed, Carly Burkhardt of Greenville, SC and will face off against 2013 North Carolina Junior Girls Runner-Up, Emilia Migliaccio of Cary, NC. Migliaccio feels like she has some unfinished business to take care of and is also vying to capture her first big championship win.
In the finals of the first flight Kayla Thompson of Whiteville, NC will match up against Cathreine Ashworth of Fuquay-Varina, NC. After the top 16 girls were seeded for the championship the rest of the field was placed into flights and competes at match play for the duration of the championship.
The semifinal championship matches begin at 8:00am off the #1 tee.
