Fuquay-Varina, NC – Final results of the 17th North Carolina Junior Girls Championship hosted by Bentwinds Golf and Country Club on Friday, June 21, 2013. Par 36-36—72 5876 yards.
Lucia Polo of Greensboro, NC captured her second CGA championship title by defeating Emilia Migliaccio of Cary, NC by a 5 & 3 margin. Polo would find herself with a 3 up lead early on in the match after Migliaccio’s putter began to fail her. “I putted well all week. I’m not really sure what happened out there today,” Migliaccio said disappointed. “I must have had about six putts lip out to keep myself in the match. It just wasn’t meant to be this week for me.” Polo was 5 up through the par 3 8th but missed a short par putt on the par 4th 9th to give one back to Migliaccio. Polo would remain 4 up until the 13th hole where Migliaccio’s approach shot would find the mulch and pine straw left of the green. She failed to get up and down while Polo was able to get out of the greenside bunker which landed close to the hole and was able to convert the par putt. Polo would then go 5 up and dormie heading into the par 5 14th. Migliaccio would not quit though and was able to reach the green in two by making birdie to keep her chances alive. Both players hit their tee shots close in to the par 3 15th but Polo made a clutch birdie putt to close out the match and take home the trophy.
Polo, who will attend the University of Tennessee in the fall, is now invited to be a part of the exclusive Carolinas Junior Girls Team in the Mid-Atlantic Junior Girls Team Matches that will take place at the Country Club of North Carolina in Pinehurst, NC on July 26-28, 2013.
