Peg Brady Captures 10th N.C. Women's Senior Amateur Championship
Charlotte , NC – Final results of the 10th North Carolina Women’s Senior Amateur Championship hosted by Raintree Country Club, South Course on Wednesday April 24, 2013. Par 36-36-72 5689 yards.
Peg Brady of Stanley, NC captures her first North Carolina Women’s Senior Championship crown by a one shot margin over defending champion, Pat Brogden of Garner, NC. Brady and Brogden were neck and neck most of the day. “When I would make a birdie, she (Brogden) would make one too,” Brady said. “It was really a lot of fun to be going back and forth with each other out there today.” After 9 holes Brady still held a one shot lead over the defending champion but Brogden made a birdie on the par 4 tenth while Brady missed a short put for par and found themselves both tied for the lead. They duo would fight to the finish; each matching each other shot for shot all the way to the eighteenth hole. “I must have known that we were tied on that tee because my drive was a little off,” Brady laughed. “I just tried to make good swings out there and not worry about what our scores were.” Brady’s approach shot would reach the green while Brogden’s approach found the back bunker behind the green. Brogden failed to get up-and-down for a par while Brady two-putt par gave her the win. Brady smiled and said, “I’ve come so close so many times and I just wanted to make sure I was staying in the moment. I think I’m still in shock that I finally won!”
In the tournament division Melissa Sage of Charlotte, NC and local Raintree Country Club member shot a 2-under par round of 70 to win the tournament division by an impressive eight strokes. This division plays a shorter course. Sue Kress of Southern Pines, NC had her ninth career hole-in-one on the par 3 second during the final round. Mary Hill of Winston-Salem, NC took home the super senior trophy.
Players were placed into flights for the duration of the championship.
