54th Twin States Junior Girls’ Championship Preview

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (June 18, 2020) -- The Carolinas Golf Association will conduct the 54th Twin States Junior Girls’ Championship at Dataw Island Club in Dataw Island, S.C. from June 22 - 23, 2020. (6,007 yards, par 36-36--72)

Players to watch:

 

• Morgan Ketchum of Winston-Salem, N.C. is ranked No. 22 in the Carolina Girls’ rankings. Ketchum is coming off of a victory at the 24th N.C. Junior Girls’ Championship that wrapped up on Friday. She also placed second in the Carolinas Women Amatuer in June, and the HJGT College Prep tournament at Vanderbilt. Ketchum is the reigning Carolinas Girls’ 15 and Under Champion.

 

• Katherine Schuster of Kill Devil Hills, N.C. is the No. 2 ranked golfer in the Carolinas Junior Girls’ rankings. She placed third in the Dustin Johnson World Junior in February, and had two wins this past fall at the 1A/2A Women’s State Championship and the 1A/2A East Regional. She also placed second in the Pinecrest Girls’ HS Invitational. Schuster plans to join the Clemson women’s golf team in the fall of 2021.  

• Maria Atwood of Holly Springs, N.C. is a rising high school junior. She is currently ranked No. 4 in the Carolinas Junior Girls’ Rankings. Most recently, Atwood was the medalist and a semifinalist at the 24th North Carolina Junior Girls’ Championship. She also placed second at the Carolinas Georgia Junior in January and fourth at the PKBGT Junior at Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club in December. 

 

• Chloe Holder of Williamston, S.C. is currently ranked No. 8 in the Carolinas Junior Girls’ Rankings. Holder’s most recent win was the PKBGT National in February. In the last year Holder has claimed eight victories including the 2019 Vicki DiSantis Championship and the 2019 WSCGA Junior Girls’ State Championship.

 

• Phoebe Carles of Clinton, S.C. is a recently-graduated high school senior. In February, she placed 24th at the Sea Pines Junior Heritage, and earlier in the fall had three top ten finishes. Carles is the reigning South Carolina Junior Match Play Champion and is committed to play at UNC Asheville in the fall. 

 

The Twin States Junior Girls' Championship began in 1967 and has a very long history with many great champions, including Beth Daniel and Page Marsh. The Women's Carolinas Golf Association administered the championship until 2007 when the organization transferred the tournament to the Carolinas Golf Association. 

 

The championship is conducted at 36 holes of stroke play competition. There is only one division in this championship, but players are flighted by score after 18 holes. 

 

Entry is open to any female amateur golfer, ages 12-18 as of June 23, 2020, who has not started college, maintains a residence in North Carolina or South Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index®.

About the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA)
