53rd North Carolina Amateur Set for Forsyth CC June 13-16
WEST END, NC (6/12/13) -- The Carolinas Golf Association's
53rd North Carolina Amateur Championship will be played June 13-16 at
Forsyth Country Club in Winston-Salem, June 13-16.
Championship format is
72 holes of stroke play. After 36 holes, the field is cut to the low 60 scores
and ties for the final rounds. An on-course playoff is used to break a tie for
the championship. The top 30 scores will receive merchandise and are exempt into
the 2014 N.C. Amateur Championship that will be played June 5-8 at Carolina Golf
Club in Charlotte.
Among the 145 players participating in this year’s championship are 2012 winner Matthew Crenshaw of Burlington and veteran Paul Simson of Raleigh, who has won this title a record four times.
Forsyth Country Club is located just out of Winston-Salem on 172 acres of hills and wooded terrain. The original nine holes were designed by architect A.W. Tillinghast in 1913 and in 1920 the famed Donald Ross finished the project. The course was renovated in 2007 by Kris Spence.
The par-71 course will play at 6731 yards for this championship. John Faidley is the PGA professional at Forsyth CC and Chris Devane is the course superintendent.
Forsyth Country Club has previously hosted the Carolinas Amateur in 1928, 1936 and 1946; the 1974 North Carolina Junior; 1989 Carolinas Women’s Four Ball; the 1998 Carolinas Senior; the 2002 North Carolina Amateur; and the 2010 North Carolina Senior.
