LANCASTER, S.C. - Congratulations to Passarawan Athipansiri of Pinehurst, N.C. on winning the 17th Carolinas Girls’ 15 & Under Championship.

With a total score of 137, she set a new scoring record for the championship. The 2014 15 & Under Champion, Roshnee Sharma of Waxhaw, N.C. previously held it with a total score of 144.

Edgewater Golf Club set the scene for this year’s showdown, and Athipansiri was the only player in the field to finish under par. Minyan Ou of Shelby, N.C. finished in solo second at even-par for the championship.

Athipansiri had a three shot lead after firing a 1-under, 71 in Round 1. Teeing off in the last group on Tuesday, she took advantage of her birdie opportunities by converting five on just the front nine en route to a 66.

“The one thing I am really proud of is every birdie putt that I really want, I always get it,” Anthipansiri said.

In the past year, she’s gotten more comfortable when those opportunities arise and her make percentage has increased.

Athipansiri said this win is special and she’s been wanting it for a while: “I want to know that I have improved since last year and I feel like I have improved a lot.”

Between rounds, she changed her approach off the tee based on the situations she found herself in on Monday. By hitting more fairways with a three or five wood instead of driver, she put herself in better areas for her approach shots.

Getting to play alongside her friends, Minyan and Minlin Ou of Shelby, N.C. and Landry Hamm of Charlotte, N.C., Athipansiri had a lot of fun in the final group.

Her family followed her the whole way through both rounds and cheered on the entire group during the excitement of the day.

“I’m really happy for them to be with me today,” Athipansiri said. “They really support me and even though I had one bogey today, everyone was like ‘It’s fine! You had a lot of birdies, you can do it!’”

The Carolinas Golf Association would like to thank General Manager, Todd Nalettte, Assistant Golf Professional, Mikhail Young, Superintendent, Phil Jenkins, Assistant Superintendent, Fred Phipps and Edgewater Golf Club’s members for a fantastic week.
