3rd CGA Senior Interclub Final Four Results

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (October 24, 2018) –  The final four teams in the 3rd Carolinas Senior Interclub Season competed Wednesday, October 24th at Pine Needles Golf & Lodge in Southern Pines, N.C.

 

The format of the championship is four-ball net match play for men ages 55 and older. Eight players from each team compete in four matches with six total points awarded in each match (two for front nine, two for back nine, two for the overall match).

The team representing Verdict Ridge Golf & Country Club in Denver, N.C., lost in the finals of last year’s championship to the team representing Pinehurst Course No. 9. They’ll look to improve on that performance tomorrow when they faceoff against the team representing Tanglewood Park Golf Course in Clemmons, N.C. This is Tangelwood’s first finals appearance in the Senior Interclub Final.

 

On Wednesday, the two teams in the East Division Finals, The Crossings Golf Club in Durham, N.C. and Tanglewood Park Golf Club, were tied after all four matches had finished. The anchor group from each team went back out to the golf course for a sudden death playoff where Bobby Cornish representing Tanglewood Park Golf Club was able to win the hole and the East Division with a par.

 

In the West Division Finals, we had another tight match. The lead group of David Medieros and John Clark were able to claim all six available points for The Links at Stoney Point in Greenwood, S.C. The second group in the division halved both the front, the back and the overall. Verdict Ridge’s Gary Downing and John Kolff were able to secure all six available points in the third match and it came down to the anchor group to decide who would go on to the finals.

 

A par on the 18th hole by Verdict Ridge’s Scott Powers gave his team the point 1 up overall win and spot back in the finals of the Carolinas Senior Interclub.

 

Verdict Ridge will look to avenge their runner-up finish in last year's Senior Interclub Season.

 

The championship match of the 3rd Carolinas Senior Interclub Season will begin Thursday at 8:00 a.m. from the first tee of Pine Needles Golf & Lodge. Four matches of four-ball competition will tee off in ten-minute intervals. The winning team will hoist the Thomas J. Thorpe trophy, named for the CGA Executive Committee member instrumental in the administration of the Carolinas Interclub seasons.
