Anderson Leads 12th Jimmy Anderson Girls' Invitational
JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (October 9, 2021) -- The Carolinas Golf Association conducted the first round of the 12th Jimmy Anderson Girls’ Invitational at Jacksonville Country Club in Jacksonville, N.C. on October 9, 2021. The field competed at 5,781 yards (par 35-37--72).

Adrian Anderson of Murrells Inlet, S.C. began her bid towards a victory Saturday morning, with a strong opening round of 4-under-par, 68 to pace the field at the Jimmy Anderson Girls’ Invitational.
“The course was a bit wet which made it unpredictable,” said Anderson. “My putting on the front nine and even the first half of that back nine wasn’t too great. I was thinking about it too much so towards the end I just stepped up and hit it how I thought and they started dropping.”
After starting her day 1-over-par through the first four holes, Anderson plated the next 14 in 5-under-par, including a great closing stretch with birdies on holes 15 through 17 to cement her two shot advantage over the field.
“You need to be able to stick your irons and wedges close to the pin,” said Anderson. “Obviously making the putts as well but I think that’s all there really is to it. There isn’t too much trouble out here. I’m gonna try to play a bit more aggressively. I left a lot of putts short out there.”
Ellen Yu of Greensboro, N.C. and Sahana Mantha of Charlotte, N.C. will join Anderson in the final group tomorrow, as both girls are tied for second after rounds of 2-under-par, 70 to open their Championship bids.
Yu carded three birdies on her opening round to offset her one bogey, while Mantha had a strong finish to her first round to come in at 2-under-par. Sitting at even par with six holes remaining, birdies on holes 14 and the finishing 18th hole at Jacksonville CC shot Mantha up into the final group.
2019 Champion Cindy Song of Waxhaw, N.C. is also hanging around, as she is tied for fourth after cruising to a 1-under-par, 71 in her opening round. Also joining Song in a tie for fourth on the leaderboard is Caroline Johnson of Mooresville, N.C., Kiera Bartholomew of Wake Forest, N.C., Madison Messimer of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Madison Myers of Cary, N.C., and Maya Beasley of Pinehurst, N.C.

Established in 1954, Jacksonville Country Club provides a tremendous George Cobb design located in Onslow County, that can challenge golfers of all skill levels. Jacksonville CC was one of Cobb’s earliest golf course design projects, and still holds up to the modern game.
Jimmy Anderson was the head golf professional at Jacksonville Country Club for over 25 years. Each Saturday morning, he conducted a junior golf clinic to help spread the game of golf to the next generation. During his tenure at Jacksonville CC, he taught many juniors including Mallory Miller, the 1987 N.C. Junior Champion and numerous future collegiate and golf professionals. Not only did he teach the game of golf, but was always there with a helpful word of encouragement to any young golfer.
The championship format is 36 holes of stroke play.
