In dominating fashion the pair of James Pearson of Charlotte, N.C. and Steve Fox of Pinehurst, N.C. ran away with the 10th Carolinas Super Senior Four-Ball with a two day score of 20-under-par for their first win in the event.
“It was great,” said Fox. “I was just happy to be playing and in the field. I knew I had a really strong partner. I’m pleased to be able to win, it's a real thrill.”
After a first round 9-under-par, 63 the duo only built upon that success at Forest Oaks Country Club, saving the best for last with a rousing 11-under-par, 61.
The start was the key for Pearson and Fox on their final round, as they bridied six of their first seven holes to add to their lead early and often.
After their 6-under-par, 30 on the front side a more than impressive 5-under-par, 31 followed on the back, which included a great finish with birdies on three of their final four holes to etch their victory in stone.
“We played great,” said Pearson. “We didn’t have one bogey. We almost got run over in the second nine there but we finished nicely to get it done.”
Bob Edens of Columbia, S.C. and Thomas Eberhard of Johns Island, S.C. finished in second with a two day total of 15-under-par. A final round 7-under-par, 65 was more than solid, for the duo from South Carolina, with seven birdies coming on the back nine, including a run of five in a row from holes 10 through 14.
Rounding out the top three, Nile Brisson of Myrtle Beach, S.C. and Junior Nance of Clarkton, N.C. finished at 13-under-par for the Championship. A strong final round of a 6-under-par, 66 helped the team cement themselves into a “podium” finish by one stroke, with a great run of play on their back nine with birdies coming on three straight holes from 14 through 16.
In the 70 and over Division the team of Southport, N.C. natives Keith Li and Pete Allen stole the show with a five stroke victory and a two day total of 17-under-par.
