Boys’ Round of 16 and Quarterfinal Results

Tag Graziano of Hilton Head Island, S.C., continued his impressive charge through Match Play with a victory in the Round of 16 to book a ticket into the Quarterfinals by shooting a 6-under-par in a  2 up victory.

Braeden Barnett of Galivants Ferry, S.C., has had a phenomenal week in Lancaster as well.  Barnett won his matches yesterday by margins of 5 and 4 and 2 and 1 to earn his way into the final 16, which he has not wasted.

In his morning match today Barnett came away with a business as usual 3 and 2 victory, and followed that up with a gritty 1 up win against a red hot Graziano paved his way into a semifinal match slated for Friday morning.

58th seed Jake Delbusse of Surfside Beach, S.C., also has run through his side of the bracket, posting back to back 5 and 4 victories yesterday, Delbusse came away with a tough 1 up victory to get into the Quarterfinals.

Delbusse continued to play well in the afternoon, making a clutch birdie on 18 to force his Quarterfinal match into a playoff. It took three extra holes but he would move on to the semifinals with a 21 hole victory.

Zach Adams of Charleston, S.C., has also established himself as perhaps the most dominant force of the 2021 playing of the South Carolina Junior Match Play Championship. After match victories of 6 and 5 in both the Round of 64 and Round of 32 yesterday, Adams followed that up with a worthy encore.

The Charleston native came away with a 5 and 3 win in his Round of 16 match, before a Quarterfinals match that saw him put it into another gear. Adams would make the turn in his afternoon match at 5-under-par and 6 up, eventually winning the match by a 6 and 5 margin.

Jay Smith of Florence, S.C., is the fourth and final competitor to move into the semifinals, and has had his fair share of great performances. Smith nudged his way into the Round of 32 after a 19 hole victory yesterday morning, before a 6 and 5 win in the Round of 32 gave him a much needed momentum lift into Thursday.

In the Round of 16 a business as usual 3 and 1 win set the stage for him to win in a playoff for the second time in four matches to earn his way into the semifinals.

Girls’ Quarterfinal and Semifinal Results

In the girls Quarterfinal the upset of the day came when the number eight seed Olivia Wilkie of Bluffton, S.C., was able to beat number one seed Hannah Altman of Lake City, S.C., in a match that went the distance and then some, finishing in 19 holes by way of a Wilkie chip-in on the Par-4 first at Lancaster GC.

Madison Dixon of Boiling Springs, S.C., has had a great run in the 2021 playing of the South Carolina Junior Match Play as well. Her Quarterfinal match Thursday morning saw her record a 4 and 3 victory, and she followed that up with a very steady Semifinal match that finished 3 and 2 to earn her way into the Final match.

Skye Two Hawks Skenandore of Aiken, S.C., continued her stellar play as well, following up a 7 and 5 victory from yesterday’s Round of 16 with a 5 and 4 mark in her Quarterfinal match Thursday morning.

The closest match of her Championship thus far came in the Semifinals, as she went toe to toe with Raegan Propes of Charleston, S.C., in a match that went to 19 holes. Skenandore rolled in a clutch birdie on that playoff hole to move into the finals slated for Friday morning.

Lancaster Golf Club is located right on the outskirts of the town of Lancaster. The original nine holes were designed by Donald Ross in 1939, and feature a more open setup. Russell Breeden’s work on the back nine to finish the course is highlighted by tree lined fairways, giving a different look and challenge to players of all levels.

The championship format is match play with 18 holes of stroke play qualifying to determine the seeding for match play. The top 64 boys and the top 16 girls from the stroke play qualifier will advance to match play. Once a player loses a match, they are eliminated from the tournament.
