Wilkie Leads After Round 1 at Carolinas Girls' 15 and Under Championship

WHISPERING PINES, N.C. (July 12, 2021) -- First round results from the 14th Carolinas Girls’ 15 and Under Championship at the Country Club of Whispering Pines in Whispering Pines, N.C., July 12-13, 2021. The championship division is competing at 5,701 yards (36-36--72). The junior division is competing at 5,342 yards (36-36--72). The sub-junior division is competing at 2,474 yards (36).

Bridget Wilkie of Bluffton, S.C. is leading the championship division with an immersive score of even-par on her round on Monday. Mary Elizabeth Harrison of Cary, N.C. is at the helm of the junior division posting a 11-over-par, 81. Audrey Liu of Weddington, N.C. has a commanding lead in the sub-junior division following her 7-over-par, 43. 

 

Wilkie found fire on her outward nine, posting five pars, two bogeys and two equalizing birdies. Wilkie was able to remain even-par after finding a bogey on the first hole. She battled back and birdied the par-3, second that only saw three birdies all day on Monday. On the par-4, fourth hole Wilkie was the sole competitor to register a birdie on a lengthy hole. 

 

On her inward nine Wilkie posted seven pars, one bogey and one birdie to post an even-par, 72. She made the turn and the par train left the station with Wilkie on board. She parred the tenth, birdied the 11 and parred Nos. 12-16. Wilkie gave a shot back on the longer par-4, No.17 before parring the final hole to complete her even-par, 72 round on Monday. 

 

Hallie Wilson of Lewisville, N.C. is sole possession of second place after firing off a 4-over-par, 76 on Monday. Wilson opened her round with three consecutive pars and closed with three pars to finish four strokes off the lead. 

 

Grace Ridenour of Raleigh, N.C. is in third place, 5 strokes off the lead. Ridenour played the stretch of seven holes: 7-13, in a 2-under-par manner. She finished 5-over, 77. 

The final round will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday utilizing a shotgun start format.

About the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA)

The CGA is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization that was founded in 1909 to promote and to protect the game of golf in the Carolinas by providing competitions, education, support and benefits to golf clubs and golfers.
