Preview: 61st North Carolina Amateur Championship

 

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (June 15, 2021) -- The Carolinas Golf Association will conduct the 61st North Carolina Amateur Championship at Lonnie Poole Golf Course at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, N.C. from June 17 - 20, 2021. The field will compete at 7,228 yards (par 36-36--72).

Lonnie Poole Golf Course at North Carolina State University features an Arnold Palmer designed golf course that provides a public golf course on the Centennial Campus of North Carolina State University and a place for the men’s and women’s golf teams of N.C. State to play. Lonnie Poole GC also features the honor of being the singular collegiate golf course designed by Arnold Palmer. With terrific views of the Raleigh skyline, Lonnie Poole has become a pillar of golf in both Raleigh and NC State’s community. The golf course features bermudagrass fairways and primary rough, while the greens contain a creeping and bentgrass mixture. 

 

The North Carolina Amateur Championship began in 1961 and annually crowns the men’s amateur champion of North Carolina. This is the first time that the North Carolina Amateur Championship will be hosted at Lonnie Poole Golf Course at North Carolina State University.

The Championship is conducted at 72 holes of stroke play, the field will be cut to the top 60 and ties after 36 holes to compete in the final 36 holes. This competition includes gross scores only. Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who is a legal resident in North Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® 10.4 or under.

First Round - 18 Holes of Individual Stroke Play

Friday, June 18

Second Round - 18 Holes of Individual Stroke Play - Cut to 60 and ties 

Saturday, June 19

Third Round - 18 Holes of Individual Stroke Play

Final Round - 18 Holes of Individual Stroke Play

About the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA)


The CGA is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization that was founded in 1909 to promote and to protect the game of golf in the Carolinas by providing competitions, education, support and benefits to golf clubs and golfers. The CGA is the second largest golf association in the country with over 700 member clubs represented by nearly 150,000 individuals.

The CGA annually conducts 48 championships and five team match competitions for men, women, juniors, and seniors. The CGF has distributed nearly $2,000,000 since 1977 to benefit Carolinas' golf initiatives including junior and women's programs.
