Jodee Tindal of Rock Hill, S.C. has maintained her lead at the 95th Carolinas Women’s Amateur Championship finishing the second round at 2-under-par, 142 overall. She leads the field by one-stroke entering the final round at Rolling Hills Country Club tomorrow.

Consistency was key for Tindal’s second round. On her outward nine, the College of Charleston senior carded six pars and a birdie on the par-4 No. 7 finishing her front nine at 1-over-par, 37. She started to heat up after the turn and birdied Nos. 12 and 13 to take back her one-stroke lead.

“On No. 12, I just hit a really good wedge which just lipped out and I had about six feet for birdie and I made it,” said Tindal. “No. 13 is kind of reachable, but I just played a safer shot in front of the green and chipped up to three feet and sank it.”

Tindal carded 1-over-par, 73 on the day and plans to play a safe, smart final round tomorrow to try and claim the title. “If you shoot around par every day, that is pretty solid so that is going to be my main goal tomorrow and hopefully some putts will fall.”

Morgan Ketchum of Winston-Salem, N.C. is right on Tindal’s tail at 1-under-par, 143 overall after firing off the only round under-par today in the Championship Division, 1-under-par, 71. Ketchum attributed her round to consistent play. “On the front nine, I was hitting it into play. I didn’t have to scramble, I was just consistent.”

She carded five birdies on the day and managed to birdie three out of four par-3s. The reigning North Carolina Junior Girls’ champion said, “I capitalized well on the par-3s because you start off in a good position on the tee box. If you can hit a strong iron shot then you leave a short putt for birdie.”

The 2020 North Carolina Junior Girls’ Player of the Year Kiera Bartholomew of Wake Forest, N.C. and Emily Hawkins of Lexington, N.C. are tied for third position at 2-over-par, 146 total. The 2020 Carolinas Junior Girls’ Player of the Year Adrian Anderson of Murrells Inlet, S.C. is in a four-way-tie with Sophia Burnett of Bluffton, S.C., Isabella Britt of Chesnee, S.C. and Sophie Lauture of Charlotte, N.C. for fifth position at 3-over-par, 147 overall.

This year we have a new addition to the championship called the Collegiate Cup. The Collegiate Cup is a team competition contested during the Carolinas Women’s Amateur Championship and is open to players currently enrolled at a college/university, players who will be enrolled by September 15, 2021, or graduated from a college/university in 2021. These players are eligible to represent their school in the Collegiate Cup. The top-two 54-hole scores from players representing a college/university will be combined to create a team score.

College of Charleston continues to lead the field in the Collegiate Cup standings, now at 1-over-par, 289 total entering the final round. Furman University holds second at 7-over-par, 295 and Campbell University is two strokes behind them in third with a 9-over-par, 297 total.

Pam Prescott of Piedmont, S.C. has not only held on to her lead, but now widened it to a seven stroke lead finishing the day at 1-over-par, 145 overall. The reigning Carolinas Senior Women’s Amateur champion carded the only round under-par on the day in the Carolinas Division. Peyton O’Brien of Clemson, S.C. holds second position entering the final round at 8-over-par, 152 total.

The final round will begin tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m. with starting times off of Nos. 1 and 10. Stay tuned to our Instagram, Twitter and Facebook for live coverage of the final round of the 95th Carolinas Women’s Amateur Championship.
