Morgan and Sellers Lead Carolinas Young Amateur
PINEHURST, N.C. (January 4, 2021) -- First round results of the 12th Carolinas Young Amateur at Pinewild Country Club (Magnolia) in Pinehurst, N.C. on January 4, 2021. The Women’s Division is competing at 6,063 yards and the Men’s Division is competing at 6,969 yards, par 36-36--72.

The field persisted through frigid January temperatures today to wrap up the opening round of the 12th Carolinas Young Amateur with several players going low.
In the Women’s Division, Anna Morgan of Spartanburg, S.C. has taken the lead at 3-under-par, 69. The 2020 Carolinas Women’s Amateur Champion carded a bogey-free, 33 on the front nine and with the help of birdies on Nos. 13 and 18, she holds the lead by one shot entering the final round. Sophia Burnett of Bluffton, S.C. was the only other player under par carding 2-under-par, 70. Notably, the freshman at Furman University played a bogey-free round today to hold second position. Morgan and Burnett are teammates on the Furman University team.
In the Men’s Division, Grant Sellers of McBee, S.C. fired off a 6-under-par, 66 at Pinewild Country Club’s Magnolia Course. With seven birdies on the day, the Francis Marion University junior has taken the lead by one heading into the final round. Austin Duncan of York, S.C. is right on Sellers’ tail with an outstanding 5-under-par, 67 today. The North Greenville University senior played one out of the three bogey-free rounds played today. Nicholas Mayfield of Rock Hill, S.C. holds third position with a 4-under-par, 68 opening round.

About the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA)
The CGA is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization that was founded in 1909 to promote and to protect the game of golf in the Carolinas by providing competitions, education, support and benefits to golf clubs and golfers.
