Preview: Inaugural Mimosa Hills Junior Invitational

 

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (August 27, 2020) -- The Carolinas Golf Association will conduct the Inaugural Mimosa Hills Junior Invitational at Mimosa Hills Country Club in Morganton, N.C. from August 29 - 30, 2020. The Boys’ division will compete at approximately 6,755 yards, par 72. The Girls’ division will compete at approximately 5,810 yards, par 72.

The Inaugural Mimosa Hills Junior Invitational is a 36-hole stroke play event for boys and girls who earn their invitation through several qualifying criteria that include junior tournament placings and overall rankings. The field for the 2020 championship will consist of 30 girls and 83 boys. Here are some of the top-ranked players in this year’s field:
 

Girls’ Division

• Adrian Anderson of Murrells Inlet, S.C. has earned the No. 3 rank in the Carolinas Junior Girls’ Rankings after an incredible summer placing in the top-10 in all 10 events that she has played in. This includes winning the WSCGA Junior Girls’ Championship, earning runner-up in the S.C. Junior Match Play and finishing solo third in the Hope Valley Junior. 

• Morgan Ketchum of Winston-Salem, N.C. is the reigning N.C. Junior Girls’ Champion, a runner-up at the Carolinas Women’s Amateur and she tied for third at the Carolinas Junior Girls’ Championship. Now she is the No. 12 ranked player in the Carolinas Junior Girls’ Rankings.

• Isabella Britt of Chesnee, S.C. tied for third in the Blade Junior Classic, finished eighth at the Carolinas Junior Girls’ and was a member of the victorious Carolinas Team in the Mid-Atlantic Girls’ Challenge Matches. Britt holds the No. 8 rank in the Carolinas Junior Girls’ Rankings.

• Maria Atwood of Holly Springs, N.C. made it to the Semifinals in the N.C. Junior Girls’ and has finished in the top-10 in her last three starts. Atwood holds the No. 10 rank in the Carolinas Junior Girls’ Rankings.

• Sydney Roberts of Chesnee, S.C. won the PKBGT Orange Whip Classic, finished runner-up at the WSCGA Junior Girls’ State Championship and claimed third at the Beth Daniel Junior Azalea. She is now ranked No. 19 in the Carolinas Junior Girls’ Rankings. 

• Macie Burcham of Greensboro, N.C. won the TYGA State Championship and the TYGA Triad at Jamestown Golf Club this month. That has helped her to earn the No. 20 rank in the Carolinas Junior Girls’ Rankings. 

 

Boys’ Division

 

• Tyler DeChellis of Clayton, N.C. is the second best junior player in the Carolinas based on the Carolinas Junior Boys’ Rankings. This summer, DeChellis finished third at the TYGA Coastal Plains, tied for fourth at the Hope Valley Junior, tied for sixth at the Dogwood Junior Boys’ and claimed solo fifth at the Carolinas Junior Boys’.

• Gene Zeigler of Florence, S.C. is right on DeChellis’ tail coming in at No. 3 in the Carolinas Junior Boys’ Rankings. Zeigler is the Carolinas Junior Boys’ Player of the Year and has finished runner-up in his last two starts at the Carolinas Junior Boys’ and the Beth Daniel Junior. He is looking to end his runner-up streak with a big win this week. 

• Zach Adams of Charleston, S.C. is ranked No. 4 in the Carolinas Junior Boys’ Rankings. Adams tied for second at the Future Masters tournament in Dothan, Alabama in June, finished tied for fifth at the S.C. Junior Match Play Championship and tied for eighth at the Carolinas Junior Boys’ this summer to secure his invitation to this event.

• Max Green of Hilton Head Island, S.C. has earned his No. 8 rank in the Carolinas Junior Boys’ Rankings after a second place finish at the Grant Bennett Florence Invite and a solo third finish at the Carolinas Junior Boys’ Championship. 

• Andrew Swanson of Bluffton, S.C. started his summer off as runner-up at the Upstate Junior Classic, then made it to the Semifinals at the S.C. Junior Match Play. Since then he has had three more top-five finishes to be ranked No. 15 in the Carolinas Junior Boys’ Rankings. 

• Caeden Baker of Mebane, N.C. was the runner-up at the Hope Valley Junior earlier this month and finished tied for ninth at the TYGA State Championship. Baker is ranked No. 16 in the Carolinas Junior Boys’ Rankings.
