Garrett Risner of Holly Springs, N.C. takes a nine-shot lead over his nearest competitor heading into Wednesday’s final round at the Dogwood State Junior Boys’ Championship. Risner finished with the lead for the second day in a row after shooting 7-under-par, 65 in round two and finishing at 13-under-par, 131 total after 36 holes.

“My irons and wedges were really good today, gave me a lot of chances inside 10 feet which really helped,” Risner said.

Risner said he played a similar game as he did in his first round, the main difference being that he made birdies on a new variety of holes. Going into the final round tomorrow, Risner’s game plan will remain the same.

“So far everything I’ve been doing has been working pretty well, so I’ll just keep everything the same for tomorrow,” Risner said.

Risner will be a rising freshman at Elon University this fall. He shared that during his official visit three months ago he met most of the team and is excited to start his college golf career.

“I’m really excited. I can’t wait. Coach Hill is a great guy,” Risner said.

Matias La Grutta of Cary, N.C sits in second place with a total score of 4-under-par, 140 after playing his second round at even par, 72. Matthew Richardson of Ayden, N.C. is in third place with Owen Kose of Holly Springs, N.C. one shot behind La Grutta with a total of 3-under-par, 141 after an even par round today as well.

The field will be cut to the best 60 scores and ties, with rounds resuming Wednesday morning at 7:30 a.m.
