WINSTON-SALEM, NC (March 27, 2018) -- First round results of the 2^nd Annual North Carolina Super Senior Four-Ball Championship hosted by Maple Chase Golf & Country Club in Winston-Salem, NC on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 (Championship Division: 5,835 yards, Par 35-36--71, 70+ Division: 5,230 yards, par 35-36--71).

Defending champions of the NC Super Senior Four-Ball Championship lead a tight leaderboard after the first round.  2017 champions, Russ Perry of Winston-Salem, NC & Mark Stephens of Troutman, NC notched five birdies on the way to a five-under par round of 66.  The leaders felt they left shots on the course as they three putted two par-fives during the round.  Sitting one shot behind are the teams Don Detweiler of Raleigh, NC & Paul Simson of Raleigh, NC and Robert Desjardins of Mathews, NC & Bill Boles of Wilson, NC who all shot four-under par 67 at Maple Chase.  Four additional teams sit within three shots of the lead heading into the final round, including the team of Butch English of Cornelius, NC & Wayne Pyrtle of Burlington, NC who were bested by Perry & Stephens in sudden death playoff last year.  

 

In the 70+ Division, Jim Blaylock of Winston-Salem, NC & Gam Bates, Jr. of Winston-Salem, NC had a very clean scorecard with five birdies and no blemishes while shooting five-under par 66.  They lead the 70+ division by two strokes.

The final round is set for a 10:00am shotgun start on Wednesday morning at Maple Chase. 

Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 65th birthday by the first round, and is a legal resident of North Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association and has an active USGA Handicap Index® at a CGA member club.
