2nd Hope Valley Junior Invitational set for August 12-15

Nation’s Top Junior Golfers Return to Durham this August
Durham’s Storied Hope Valley CC to Host 2nd Hope Valley Junior Invitational

Durham, NC – Nearly 100 of the country’s premier junior golfers return to the Triangle this August. Hope Valley Country Club will again welcome top junior golfers to the annual Hope Valley Junior Invitational, conducted on their Donald Ross course, August 12-15, 2019. The event is a 54-hole stroke play tournament for boys and girls who earn their berth through invitation criteria categories that include junior tournaments and rankings.

According to Bob Byrnes, the club’s Head Golf Professional, the Hope Valley Junior Invitational offers participants the opportunity to compete on a storied, historic course and enjoy a warm, enthusiastic welcome at this exceptional private club. "The Hope Valley membership is eager to give back to the game by combining a top competitive golf event with true Southern hospitality. Of all the tournaments we’ve hosted over the years, this may be closest to the heart of the membership. Growing the game and investing in the future of golf are longstanding priorities at Hope Valley. We’re looking forward to hosting the tournament this August and for many years to come."

Jason Cox, the Director of Junior Golf for the Carolinas Golf Association, echoes Bob’s assessment saying, "Hope Valley Country Club has been a great supporter of junior golf for many years and having them create such a tournament like the Hope Valley Junior Invitational really shows their dedication to growing the game of golf. The Carolinas Golf Association is honored that Hope Valley would ask us to be a part of what will become one of the best junior tournaments in the Carolinas."

Hope Valley Country Club was founded in 1926 and the course was designed by the world-famous golf course architect, Donald J. Ross, in coordination with landscape architect Robert Cridland. Unlike many of his projects, Ross personally supervised the planning and construction of Hope Valley. Centered around its Aymar Embury II Clubhouse, the course has hosted many significant golf events.

Through the years the Hope Valley has had the distinction of hosting many wonderful golf tournaments. They include the U.S. Amateur Qualifying for both Men and Women, the U.S. Senior Men’s Qualifying, the North Carolina Amateur Championship, Carolinas Junior Boy’s Championship, Women’s Western Junior National Championship and Carolinas Junior Girl’s Championship.

The tournament moment, of which the club members may be most proud, took place on April 1, 1945 when Byron Nelson won the Durham Open at Hope Valley. This was his fourth victory out of winning eleven tournaments in a row, a PGA Tour record. Hope Valley membership recognizes that proud stewardship of these outstanding traditions requires that their club continue to revere the old and embrace the new in order to share their commitment to the great game of golf with upcoming generations.
