Moore Leads N.C. Senior Women's Am

 

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (April 29, 2019) -- First round results of the Carolinas Golf Association's 16th North Carolina Senior Women's Amateur Championship at Chapel Hill Country Club in Chapel Hill, N.C. on Monday, April 29 (Par 36-36--72, Championship Division: 5,409 Yards, Course/Slope Rating 71.2/133 – Carolinas Division: 4,940 Yards, Course/Slope Rating 69.8/121).

Patty Moore of Pinehurst is proving once again why she is the all-time leader in CGA women’s championship wins. Last week, Moore was the medalist at the U.S. Senior Women’s Open qualifier. Today, she shot a two-over-par, 74 to take the first-round lead at the N.C. Senior Women’s Amateur Championship being held at Chapel Hill Country Club in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Moore, a four-time winner of this event, will hold a two-shot lead going into the final round over her nearest competitor, Pat Brogden of Garner. Brogden is the only competitor in the field with more titles in this event than Moore. Brogden has won the N.C. Senior Women’s Amateur a record five times and a win this week would make it three in a row.

Lisa Mooneyham of Graham sits in third place after a six-over-par 78 in the first round.

In the Carolinas Divison’s first flight, Nancy Cooper of Burlington and Carole Jones of Hillborough are tied for the lead after first round scores of seven-over-par 79. Cooper is currently the lower Super Senior in the Carolinas Divison.
