Last year, Pinehurst Country Club of Pinehurst, N.C. took home the inaugural Carolinas Women's Club Team title after defeating No. 1 seed and stroke play qualifying medalist Cowan's Ford Country Club of Lake Norman, N.C. in a sudden-death playoff.

Striving to defend their title this year, the Pinehurst Country Club team decided to switch up their lineup slightly. Representing Pinehurst CC will be Donna Tanner, Sally Means, Patty Moore, and Kendra Muir. 2017 Runners-up Cowan's Ford Country Club's roster will consist of Peg Brady, Robby Knotts, June Wang, and Kathy Binkley. After being defeated on the first playoff hole in last year's championship, Cowan's Ford CC will be ready for a rematch.

A total of 10 CGA member clubs will make up the field this week. Headlining the field along with Pinehurst CC and Cowan’s Ford CC is Pine Needles Resort. The home club favorite and sister course of Mid Pines Inn & Golf Club will be led by none other than 2018 Carolinas Senior Women's Amateur Champion, Susan Beaupied. Beaupied and her team - Maureen Buck, Dokim Elphick, and Therese St. Peter - are hoping to get into contention this week with their home field advantage.

The Carolinas Women’s Club Team Championship took on a new format in 2018, making the championship friendlier to golfers of all skill levels. Each club team is comprised of four women who belong to the same CGA member club. The four players are split into two-woman sides on each day of competition and the aggregate of the two, two-woman sides will make up the team’s score for the day. The championship will be played over three days with different partner/team formats each day. The first round will be two-woman captain's choice (scramble); the second round will be four-ball stroke play (better ball of two); and the third round will be Pinehurst alternate shot stroke play. The championship will be conducted with two divisions: the Championship Division (gross scores only) and the Carolinas Division (net scores only).

The golf course at Mid Pines remains as Donald Ross crafted the course in 1921. Many people have characterized the course as “pure Donald Ross” because of how it fits the land where it was built. The Carolinas Women’s Club Team Championship will be the 21st CGA championship hosted by Mid Pines.
