14th Dogwood Girls' Preview

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (August 5, 2018) -- The Carolinas Golf Association will conduct the 14th Dogwood State Girls' Championship at Chapel Hill Country Club in Chapel Hill, N.C. from August 7-9, 2018.

Players to watch:

• Two-time CGA champion Rachel Kuehn of Asheville, N.C. is looking for her second CGA title of the summer at this year's event. Kuehn is currently the top-ranked junior girls' golfer in North Carolina. In May, she won the Vicki DiSantis Junior Girls' Championship with a five-under-par 139. In 2017, the Wake Forest commit earned her first CGA title at the Carolinas Women's Amateur and was named the 2017 North Carolina Junior Girls' Player of the Year.

• Nicole Adam of Pinehurst, N.C. is currently ranked No. 3 among junior girls' golfers in North Carolina. The rising junior has 14 top-10 finishes so far in 2018, including a T4 finish at the North and South Girls' Amateur. The UNC-Chapel Hill commit also qualified and advanced to match play competition at the 2018 U.S. Girls' Junior Championship.

• 2017 champion Sasha Hayes of Winston-Salem, N.C. will return to this year's field to defend her title. At last year's tournament, she finished seven strokes ahead of the rest of the field. The rising high school senior has finished in the top-10 six times so far this year and was a quarterfinalist at the North Carolina Junior Girls' Championship.

• Maria Atwood of Holly Springs, N.C. is in search of her second CGA title of the summer. She captured her first CGA title earlier this year at the Carolinas Junior Girls' Championship. The rising high school freshman has three top-10 finishes so far in 2018 and is currently ranked No. 21 among junior girls' golfers in North Carolina.

• Muskan Uppal of Cornelius, N.C. is currently ranked No. 13 among junior girls' golfers in North Carolina. The rising high school senior has five top-10 finishes so far in 2018 and was a semifinalist at the North Carolina Junior Girls' Championship. In 2017, she finished second at the NCISAA Girls' State Championship.
   

Chapel Hill Country Club was originally designed by Gene Hamm and was redesigned by John LaFoy in 1999. The course features 18 distinctive holes with challenging hills, valleys, creeks and ponds surrounded by peace and serenity.

The championship format is 54 holes of stroke play competition.

Entry is open to any female golfer ages 12 to 18 as of August 9, 2018, who has not started college, is a legal resident of North Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has a current USGA Handicap Index at a CGA member club.

Scoring will be provided by the CGA throughout the championship, offering 9 and 18-hole updates. Live updates will also be available on the CGA’s official Twitter account, @cgagolf1909.
