Mid-Atlantic Girls' Challenge Matches Preview

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (July 24, 2018) -- The Carolinas Golf Association will conduct the 17th Mid-Atlantic Girls' Challenge Matches at the Indian Creek Golf and Yacht Club in Kilmarnock, VA from July 28-29, 2018.

Carolinas Team Roster:

	Maria Atwood, 14, of Holly Springs, N.C. is currently ranked in the top-25 among junior girls golfers in North Carolina. The rising high school freshman had an impressive start to her 2018 season with three top-5 finishes on the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls' Golf Tour. Atwood also snagged her first CGA title at the Carolinas Girls' Championship after carding a one-over-par 217 in three days of competition.
	Gracyn Burgess, 18, of Lexington, S.C. is currently the top-ranked junior girls golfer in South Carolina. The four-time CGA champion had an electric year in 2017, winning the Vicki DiSantis Junior Girls' Championship, the Carolinas Junior Girls' Championship and the Twin States Junior Girls' Championship. Burgess, who is a rising freshman at Clemson University, was also named the 2017 Carolinas Junior Girls' Player of the Year.
	Emily Hawkins, 17, of Lexington, N.C.  is currently ranked No. 4 among junior girls golfers in North Carolina. The rising freshman at Campbell University is a four-time CGA champion and earned her fourth title this year at the 2018 North Carolina Junior Girls' Championship. Hawkins also snagged a CGA title last year at the Jimmy Anderson Girls' Invitational.
	Sasha Hayes, 15, of Winston-Salem, N.C. is currently ranked No. 10 among junior girls golfers in North Carolina. In 2017, Hayes earned the Dogwood State Junior Girls' Championship title. So far in 2018, she has five top-10 finishes, including a T8 finish at the Carolinas Girls' Championship and a T5 at the North Carolina Junior Girls' Championship.
	Abigail Schimpf, 15, of Daniel Island, S.C. is currently ranked No. 4 among junior girls golfers in South Carolina. The rising high school junior had a successful start to the 2018 season with eight top-10 finishes. Most recently, she finished T3 at the Carolinas Junior Girls' Championship and T3 at the WSCGA Junior Girls' Championship.
	Katherine Schuster, 15, of Kill Devil Hills, N.C. is currently ranked No. 2 among junior girls golfers in North Carolina. So far in 2018, the rising high school sophomore finished in the top-5 eleven times. Earlier this summer, she finished T3 at the Carolinas Junior Girls' Championship and in third at the Carolinas Women's Amateur. In 2017, Schuster won the Drive, Chip and Putt girls 14-15 National Championship at Augusta National Golf Club.
	Alexis Sudjianto, 17, of Charlotte, N.C. has narrowly missed earning a second CGA title this summer. She has finished in the top-10 eight times in 2018, including runner-up finishes at the Carolinas Junior Girls' Championship and the North Carolina Junior Girls' Championship. The rising high school senior is currently ranked No. 9 among junior girls golfers in North Carolina.
	Katie Whitfield, 17, of Clemson, S.C. is currently ranked No. 15 among junior girls golfers in South Carolina. The rising freshman at Bowling Green State University won the South Carolina Junior Girls' Championship in 2017, carding a one-under-par 143. So far in 2018, she has four top-20 finishes, including a T15 finish at the SCJGA's Sea Pines Junior Heritage.

 

Format: Match play team competition of junior girls from Maryland and Virginia versus junior girls from North Carolina and South Carolina.

 

Eligibility: Invitation only. Team members qualify based on CGA Championship exemptions. Players must be 18 years or younger and not yet started college.
