Andrew Orischak Earns Medalist Honors

GREENVILLE, S.C. (June 14, 2018) -- Second round stroke play qualifying results of the 46th South Carolina Amateur Match Play Championship at The Furman University Golf Club in Greenville, S.C. on Thursday, June 14th (7,065 yards, Par 36-36--72, Course Rating 73.6/134).

Andrew Orischak of Hilton Head Island, S.C. continued his stellar play in the second round of the 46th South Carolina Amateur Match Play Championship at The Furman University Golf Club in Greenville, S.C finishing the stroke play qualifying at eight-under-par, 136.

  

"Obviously the goal is to win the championship, but to make the match play portion and be the number one seed is big" said Orischak. Orischak started his round slow, with a one over-par, 37 on his first nine after starting on 10. With birdies on 1 and 2, Orishchak was able to cruise to a two-under par, 70. The rising junior at University of Virginia won medalist honors and will be the one seed for match play. Orischak will face Jarrett Grimes of Columbia, SC who won a four-for-one playoff to make match play.

 

Logan Sowell of Kershaw, SC fired a second round 66 including five birdies and an eagle to catapult him to the second seed. Sowell is looking for redemption after losing in the round of 16 to R.J. Keur (not in field) of Summerville who went on to win the championship.

 

Jack Parrott of Columbia S.C. secured the third seed with a two day total of six under-par 138.  Parrott started his round hot, making an eagle and three birdies in his first six holes, which led to a first nine total of four under-par 32.  The rising sophomore at The University of South Carolina continued his strong play on his second nine to post 67.  Parrott will face Harry Reynolds of Greenville S.C. in the round of 32, who is coming off his first CGA Championship win at the 3rd Carolinian Amateur. 

 

2016 medalist Riley Schank, of Bluffton, S.C., will be the fourth seed after a second round 67.  Schank will face Kyle Scruggs, of Gaffney, S.C. 

 

Two-time South Carolina Amateur Match Play winner and Furman University alum Todd White, of Spartanburg, S.C., will be seeded fifth, and will face Doug Ramey of Greer, S.C. 

 

Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 13th birthday by June 13, 2018, is a legal resident of South Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at a CGA member club that does not exceed 10.4
