It was a beautiful, steamy day in Advance, N.C. for the Round of 16 and Quarterfinal matches of the North Carolina Junior Girls' Championship. No. 1 seed Kathryn Carson of Mooresville, N.C. won both matches and advanced to the semifinals. Other top seeds did not fair as well.

In the Round of 16, Kathryn Carson played steady, but knew that her Quarterfinal match would be a challenge. "I played solid in the first match. I went for the center of fairways, center of greens and made pars. I knew I had to be more aggressive in the second match. I knew I was going to have to make birdies and I was able to stay on top pretty much the whole way." In the Round of 16, Carson defeated Charleigh Hodges of Mooresvile, N.C. 4&3. Carson carded three birdies in her quarterfinal match and didn't make a single bogey. She defeated 14-year-old Nicole Adam of Pinehurst, N.C. 2&1. Carson is looking forward to her semifinal match against Lotte Fox and hopes to hoist the Linda Marsh trophy on Friday afternoon. "I have never won a CGA major, so winning a big CGA championship in my final summer of junior golf would be really special."

In the Round of 16, 14-seed Rachael Mast of Lexington, N.C. defeated No. 3 seed Sophie Holland of Cornelius, N.C. Mast then went on to defeat another lower-seeded player in Muskan Uppal of Cornelius, N.C. in the quarterfinals. Mast and Uppal sparred back and forth all afternoon, but Mast was eventually able to outlast Uppal to claim the match 1 up.

Also advancing to the Semifinals are Nina Kouchi of Charlotte, N.C. and Lotte Fox of Raleigh, N.C. No. 23 seed Nina Kouchi closed out Mackenzie Battle of Aberdeen, N.C. 2&1 in the Round of 16. Kouchi played the most golf (a full 36 holes) of all semifinalists on Thursday. Her quarterfinal match against No. 2 seed Holly McCann lasted 19 holes. Lotte Fox was down in her match with Katherine Schuster in the Round of 16, but battled back and defeated Schuster 2 up. In her quarterfinal match, Fox faced Natalie Petersen, 2016 Dogwood State Junior Girls' Champion and future Georgia Southern Eagle. Fox, not one to be intimidated, was able to handle Petersen pretty easily, defeating her 5&3. Fox will face No. 1 seed Kathryn Carson in the Semifinals on Friday morning.

The semifinal matches will be held Friday morning and play will continue Friday afternoon with Championship Match.
